March 2017 Program
Converting Old Photos/Slides to Digital Format
Please join us for our next meeting Thursday, March 16th, at 7:00pm.
After a short business meeting and announcements, our guest presenter Suzanne Graham will show us how to convert old photos and slides into digital files. We all have boxes and/or albums full of aging photos or slides which are begging to be converted to digital for safekeeping, and restoring their original color.
We hope to see you at the meeting! Bring your name tag if you have one!
Agenda:
7:00 – 7:20 Welcome, Introductions, and Member News
7:25 – 8:15 Program: Converting Old Photos/Slides to Digital Format
8:20 – 9:00 Critiques: Leading Lines – definition: Leading lines are lines within an image that lead the eye to another point in the image, or occasionally, out of the image. Anything with a definite line can be a leading line. Fences, bridges, even a shoreline can lead the eye. (see below for details on submitting)
About Suzanne: “After earning a degree in Journalism from Baylor University, I went to work for the company that eventually became Valero. I was their publications editor, doing the writing, photography, and graphic design for three publications. I had originally been drawn into Journalism because of writing, but as I worked I discovered that my interests and talents were more in photography and graphic design. My Journalism training still influences me today. I am less of an “artistic” photographer, and more of an “event” photographer.
I taught Journalism at my son’s private middle/high school for 7 years. We did the school’s newspaper and yearbook. During those years everything went digital. Layouts began to be done on computers instead of boards. Cameras went digital, and I bought my first. And photo editing became possible.
When my youngest child graduated, I resigned from teaching and started my own business. I have been in the photography business for 30+ years. I love that my job lets me work in every facet of media. But if I had to pick one area that excites me the most, it would be preserving my clients’ memories. Sometimes that means scanning old documents and photos. Sometimes it is restoring priceless family pictures. Sometimes it means converting slides to digital so they can be enjoyed in modern formats. They aren’t just pictures, they are memories of people and places from the past that are worth reliving and passing on to future generations.”
Dues for 2017 are $12.
New members joining after the first of the year will pay a prorated amount. You may pay by check at the next meeting or mail to our treasurer, Winifred Simon, at 600 Red Hawk Road, Wimberley, TX 78676, or pay using PayPal.
