Hill Country Photography Club

I hope you are enjoying the spring weather and are making lots of beautiful pictures. I am sorry we had to cancel last month’s meeting, but the safety of our members is most important to us. I’m happy to announce that Art Arizpe’s program about the Monarch butterflies migration to Mexico has been rescheduled for the July 20 meeting.  

I’m excited about this month’s program with photographer and filmmaker John Langmore. We had scheduled John to come during 2020, but that had to be put on hold. In his “spare” time, he made a documentary film!  He will share his journey and images with you on May 18.

Program

After studying extensively under Mary Ellen Mark, John began pursuing his own documentary projects. His first project, Fault Lines, documenting a rapidly gentrifying community in his hometown of Austin was published by Trinity University Press (2019). His second long-term project, Open Range: America’s Big-Outfit Cowboy, was published by Twin Palms Publishers (2018).

Over the course of six years, John photographed fourteen of the country’s largest ranches, including several where he previously worked. John photographed the entire project on film and displays only gelatin silver prints. John’s work on the cowboy has been extensively published and exhibited in galleries and museums. John also co-directed/produced, Cowboys, a feature-length documentary film on contemporary working cowboys which premiered at the Austin Film Festival where it won the Documentary Feature Audience Award (2019). It also won Cowboys & Indians Magazine’s inaugural Best Feature Documentary. The film was broadcast internationally by ArteFrance.

Please resize and rename your 2  images as follows:  1FirstName_LastName.jpg, 2FirstName_Last Name.jpg, and resize to at least 1000 pixels on the long side.  NOTE: Send them by email to photos@jerrysargent.com  by May 16 to insure they will be shown at the meeting.(Note: As always, if you prefer to submit something other than the theme topic, you may do so.)

Dues

Annual dues are a bargain at $12 per year. If you haven’t renewed, you may pay at the meeting, or use our PayPal by using this link, or you can mail your check to Winifred Simon at 600 Red Hawk Road, Wimberley, TX  78676. (Only paid members may post on our HCPC Members Facebook page.  If you are a paid member and cannot access the account, ask Charlie Kreitler, our admin, to allow you access.
