February 2017 Program

Hill Country Photography Club

Laguna Seca – A Learning Experience

Our next meeting comes early in the month, so mark your calendars for Thursday, February 16th, at 7:00 pm.  After a short business meeting, we will hear from our own club member, Alice (pronounced “uh-LEASE”) Le Duc.  She will share her bird photography experience at Laguna Seca Ranch.

Agenda:

7:00 – 7:20  Welcome and Member Share

7:25 – 8:15  Program: Laguna Seca – A Learning Experience

8:20 – 9:00  Critiques: Before and After (see below for details on submitting)

About Alice:

Alice LeDuc received her BA in Botany at UCLA, followed by her MS in Ornamental Horticulture at University of Maryland, and her Ph.D. in Botany at UT.

She has spent many years teaching and doing research at the following universities: Texas A & M, Kansas State University, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and currently at Texas State University. She has 24 years of experience in Public Horticulture at the following gardens: Norfolk Botanical Garden as Landscape designer & Taxonomist; Planting Fields Arboretum, as Horticultural Taxonomist; at Zilker Botanical Garden as Education Coordinator; at KSU Gardens as Acting Director; and The Sarah P. Duke Gardens, as Director of Education.

Alice also has 30 years experience in floral design both as an instructor and as designer. She has had over 30 professional articles and book reviews published, along with numerous popular articles.

Dues for 2017 are $12.

New members joining after the first of the year will pay a prorated amount. You may pay by check at the next meeting or mail to our treasurer, Winifred Simon, at 600 Red Hawk Road, Wimberley, TX 78676, or pay using PayPal.

Name Tags!

Paid members will receive a permanent name tag to wear at each meeting. This will include your 2.5 inch x 3.5 inch image, with your name on it. Come to the next meeting to learn more about it! If you were at the January meeting, you can bring your own custom name tag to the February meeting, or send me your file, and I will print it for you, if you don’t have a printer.

Critiques: Before and After

You may submit 2 sets of images, with a “before” and “edited” for each set.

To prepare your images, please resize them to 2,000 pixels on the long side, and a resolution of 72, and label them 1FirstName_LastName_BF, and 1FirstName_LastName_Edit, and 2FirstName_Last Name_BF, etc.

Please submit to hcphotoclub@gmail.com by Tuesday, February 14th, so Jørgen will have time to prepare them for the meeting.

Also, please be prepared to briefly explain to the group what you did in your editing – what editing software you might have used for your images. This is a great way to show others how a “not so great” out of camera image can be “saved,” and turned into something special.
