Making the Most of Your Cell Phone Photos

Please join me for our next meeting on February 15th.

Our program will be aimed at helping you get the most out of your cell phone images, whether it’s fine art you are trying to accomplish, or simply make your cell phone photos much more interesting to save and share, in addition to amazing your friends at what you can do with one finger!

Agenda:

7:00 – 7:25  Welcome, Introductions, and Member News

7:30 – 8:15  Program: Making the Most of Your Cell Phone Photos with Carol Serur

8:20 – 9:00  Critiques: Humor

Program: Making the Most of Your Cell Phone Photos with Carol Serur

In order to get the most out of this month’s program, you will be working along with me as I go through some basic editing software, and then take it to the next level with textures, BIRDS, and other fun elements.

Here are some apps you should download to your phone before our meeting. You will need to have an iTunes account in order to make purchases on your iPhone, or to even download free apps. If you think you might want to download some during the meeting, be sure you know your password.

Here are the most important ones to have on your phone for this tutorial program: (If you have an Android phone, some may not be available. Snapseed and Repix are definitely available for you.)

NOTE: If you prefer to edit photos on your iPad rather than cell phone, be sure to download apps FOR iPad onto your iPad. You will not get the best results if you are using apps meant for cell phones.

  1. Snapseed (a Google app – free)
  2. DistressedFX – $0.99 (you may purchase more options later if you want)

Optional apps: I’ll touch on these briefly, as time allows

  1. Squaready – Great free app for Instagram posting which allows full landscape or panoramas fit into IG’s square format.
  2. Repix – Free with in-app purchases (bokeh, raindrops, smoke,
  3. Stackables – $2.99 (many textures and looks with blending mode options)
  4. VividHDR – optional – wonderful app for landscapes (I’m not sure about pricing on this)
  5. Krop Circle – Just like the name says – cropping an image with a circle
  6. PhotoFunia – like the app says, for FUN!

Also, please have a few of your photos that you would like to edit, easy to find on your phone, or iPad. Landscape images with a gray, uncluttered background make excellent choices for an edit using textures, birds, etc.

Critiques: Humor

Please resize 2 images to 2,000 pixels on the long side and a resolution of 72. Rename them 1FirstName_LastName.jpg, 2FirstName_LastName.jpg.

Remember, when showing your images, you may ask for a critique or suggestions for improvement from members, or simply “show and tell” your image.

Please email them to hcphotoclub@gmail.com by Tuesday, February 13th, so Eric will have time to prepare them for the meeting.

Dues for 2018 are $12.

New members joining after the first of the year will pay a prorated amount. You may pay by check at the next meeting or mail to our treasurer, Winifred Simon, at 600 Red Hawk Road, Wimberley, TX 78676, or pay using PayPal.

Member Share

Please join us for our August meeting on Thursday, August 17th, at 7pm. It is all about YOU! In lieu of a guest speaker, this month we will share, share, share. Please come with great questions, or useful information to share with your fellow club members.

Things you may want to share:

  1. Your favorite book publishing company – since My Publisher has closed its operations, I am looking for a quality substitute for travel books. You may even want to bring a sample and tell us why you like it.
  2. What is your “go-to” photo editing software for laptops and desktops. Photoshop or Lightroom, On1, On1Raw, Topaz, MacPhun, etc.
  3. What is your favorite cell phone app or apps – what do you know that we don’t??
  4. Can you print your cell phone images? What about quality?
  5. If you have your work printed, who do you use?
  6. If you do your own printing, where do you get your paper, and why?
  7. Do you have a website that offers good tutorials on editing?
  8. How do you share your images? Do you have a website? Do you need a website?
  9. Do you have a project your are working on, and need backers to help fund your cause? Come and share your project with us!

Please come ready to share and ask questions. We have a wealth of informed photographers who are happy to share what they know, and eager to learn more from you!

Introduction to Astrophotography

I hope you are finding ways to make the most of these hot summer days. If it’s too hot during the day to get out with your camera, why not try some Night Photography? Please join us on Thursday, July 20th, at 7:00 pm, for our next meeting which will feature Astrophographer Jerry Moreno who will share and inspire you with his beautiful night sky images, and let you in on how he captures them.

Agenda:

7:00 – 7:20  Welcome, Introductions, and Member News

7:25 – 8:15  Program: Introduction to Astrophotography with Jerry Moreno

8:20 – 9:00  Critiques: Duplicate/Pairs

Introduction to Astrophotography with Jerry Moreno

Jerry Moreno was born in Mexico, and immigrated to the US in 1999. He has been living in Dripping Springs since moving to the USA. His passion for photography began in 2012 when he was at a cousin’s wedding, which was in the middle of nowhere. He tried to capture pictures of stars using nothing but his hands as a tripod but the results were disappointing. That night Jerry went online and bought a tripod and shutter remote. He became greatly interested in Astrophotography in the summer of 2015 and it is all he has done for the past 2 years. Jerry received First place in the Texas Night Sky Festival in 2016, and was a runner-up in 2017. Jerry is also a member of Photographers of Dripping Springs (PODS), our sister photography club.

Dues for 2017 are $12.

New members joining after the first of the year will pay a prorated amount. You may pay by check at the next meeting or mail to our treasurer, Winifred Simon, at 600 Red Hawk Road, Wimberley, TX 78676, or pay using PayPal.

Critiques: Duplicate/Pairs

For this month’s critiques, please send 2 images that convey pairs, or two of something – and you may be creative with this topic.

You may submit up to 2 images. Please resize them to 2,000 pixels on the long side, with a resolution of 72, and name them 1FirstName_LastName.jpg, 2FirstName_LastName.jpg. Remember, when showing your images, you may ask for a critique or suggestions for improvement from members, or simply “show and tell” your image.

Please email them to hcphotoclub@gmail.com by Tuesday, July 18th, so Jørgen will have time to prepare them for the meeting.
